This One’s For The (Music) Lovers…

You know that Woody loves live music, right? We’ll we’ve partnered with two music buffs from SAE who have created Eat City Nights- a live music showcase of home grown and international touring acts. The idea is: kick-ass, touring bands in a small, intimate venue. Magic for the musicians, magic for the fans.

They boys have put together a stellar line up to kick off this run of shows on Saturday, November 26th.

First up are Byron favourites from the Gold Coast – sandy toed barefooters Dead Beat Band. Their toe tapping garage fuzzed-out tunes will have the crowd sliding early. Second on stage is two-piece South Coast surfabilly greasers Mother & Son. Headlining the night is Bleeding Knees Club, whose lo-fi thrashy surf pop has made waves around Australia and the globe, scoring slots on Australia’s best festivals of 2011, including Big Day Out, Homebake and Falls Festival.

Tickets are $10 at the door. See you there, kids!

P.S. Like the Eat City Nights Facebook page to stay updated and get in the running to win a signed poster by members of the bands!

Surf Festival: Saturday October 22- Screening of In Search of Tubular Waves + The Grains LIVE!

We’re stoked to be sponsoring the Byron Bay Surf Festival and hosting the Saturday night party!

As an official sponsor of Byron Bay Surf Festival, Woody’s Surf Shack is hosting the Saturday night festivities on October 22- including a screening of a classic surf film with filmmaker commentary, followed by live music.

As part of the Byron Bay Surf Festival, on Saturday October 22 at Woody’s Surf Shack,  filmmaker Dick Hoole will screen “ In Search of Tubular  Swells” and share insight and stories on the locations, surfers and the filmmaking process at 9:00pm.

Dick Hoole is an original- and a local Byronian! An accomplished filmmaker and photographer, Dick is best known for his legendary surf films. With limited finances and equipment, and after stowing away on a cruiser ship to Hawaii, Hoole and filmmaker Jack McCoy went on to film and produce two of the all time classic surf films to date, ‘In Search of Tubular Swells’ (1975) and ‘Storm Riders’ (1980).

Dick Hoole

Hoole will be immediately followed by a live performance by local favourite The Grains at 9:45pm- fresh from their latest East Coast tour! Check out their mix of Roots, Rock, Reggae and Surf. From fun, catchy, dance-worthy tracks to chilled out ballads; these local boys bring it all to the stage.
